From My Challenges...

It's Thanksgiving day here in 🇨🇦 Canada 🇨🇦

Hello and Happy Thanksgiving 🦃

When it feels like life is on track, magic is showing up in amazing ways, you are feeling great! it seems as if things are working out - positive things are showing up for you in life...... It it easy to be thankful! It is easy to feel gratitude 💕

The challenge comes in how we respond to hardship, hurt, loss and pain...... "He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not or has lost, but rejoices for those which he has" A quote from Epictetus.

Our family is facing hardship and loss today.... We experienced drought conditions again this growing season and our harvest was poor.  however that is really nothing in comparison to our recent loss of a loved one..... our brother in law passed away quite suddenly just over a week ago.

A celebration of life was held for him on saturday - I have never experienced so much heartbreak and love simultaneously.

Challenges like this can make you angry, bitter and resentful OR  they can grow you, give you clarity and perspective wit. regards to what really matters in life.

With regards to harvest we have changed and recalibrated our measure of success. We no longer measure our sucess by bushels grown..... We are now going to be measuring our success by the health and vitality of our soil.  As a result of this challenging growing season, we are growing and making different  choices. We are all excited to be using Earthworm Castings this year!

Earthworm castings are a nutrient-rich soil amendment that improves soil structure, increases moisture retention, and provides beneficial microbes for plant health. They are safe to use for all plants, including seedlings, and are beneficial for both indoor and outdoor use, helping to increase yields, improve disease resistance, and promote healthy root growth. The castings are applied by mixing them into soil, using them as a top dressing, or making a "worm tea" to water plants.

Our target is to become better stewards of the land
--> to leave the land greater, stronger than when we started working it.

Our target is to become a farm that works with nature, with the land --> not against it, not fighting it.  There has been many times in the past where we felt like we were fighting against.. against the weather, against time, against insect, against weeds, against disease.... however everything we did only addressed the symptoms --> not the root cause <-- Strengthening the health and vitality of our soil is addressing and healing where the dis-ease is stemming from.

Our target is to farm in communion with --> Not being a slave to the farm, and not making the farm a slave to us.... rather growing together in communion.  We will no longer sacrifice all of our time, energy and resources = > OUR WHOLE LIFE < = to the farm.  It doesn't ask that of us.  We will show up and work when it is required - absolutely 100% - and then we will explore and discovers other joys and excitements that life has to offer. In return we will not rape, pillage and work the land to its destruction, neglecting it, we will tend to it... GROW it and strengthen it in the way we can.  We will live in balance and communion WITH the farm, with the land.

In all honesty, we know we haven't been doing that in our farming practices.  It's never too late to make a new choice!

We are not allowing this drought and poor harvest to scare us, to make us angry at the weather, to make us regret any choices we have made ... we are allowing it to change our minds, our perspective, our values... we are allowing it to transform us.

The loss of a loved one is indescribable..... sadness is a sign of love and tears are the body's way of healing.

This loss will not grow fear (I am scared to die)

This loss will not grow guilt (why am I still alive)

This loss will not grow resentment (this isn't fair)

This loss is growing love.... for our family and within the community.

During the ceremony on saturday the priest thanked Wayne for everything he was and did..... This still brings tears to my eyes as I type this and look at his mischievously smiling face - showing the joy and love for the life he had - on his funeral card.  Thank you Wayne for the time we had together, thank you for all the laughs, the excursions and adventures together at buffalo, for all of your help and for your love.

💕 THANK YOU 💕

I know this isn't the end, but the beginning.

I know you are not gone, it's just different.

How we face anything in life will determine the effect it will have on us.

If you are going through a challenging situation and having a hard time to see a path thats positive, thats ok.  You are not wrong.

One of the tools I use for guidance is oracle cards.

I have found the card that comes out is such gift.  It gives me perspective and clarity in times of confusion and chaos.

If you have a deck, I encourage you to pull a card.

If you'd like to book a card reading with me - I'd be Honoured to 💕
